This virtual GEF-8 Asia regional meeting took place on Monday, November 21, 2022. The workshop began with an overview of the GEF-8 Programing Directions. Invited participants then took part in breakout groups for detailed presentations and discussions of each integrated program, with the opportunity to ask questions and directly interact with the program leads. The GEF Secretariat provided updates on the Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop to be held in Indonesia in January 2023.   

The Asia and Pacific Regional IP Workshop took place in Bali, Indonesia from January 10-13, 2023. The workshop brought together the GEF Secretariat and invited partners for an overview of the GEF-8 Programing Directions on integrated programs (IPs), focal areas, and global programs, and hands-on sessions with a specific focus on the IPs and the country Expression of Interest process. There were additional discussions on knowledge sharing (learning stations), lessons from previous GEF integrated approach investments, and private sector engagement.

Forests and trees in urban areas offer multiple benefits for the environment and for people, such as carbon sequestration, reduced heat island effect, improved air quality, and enhanced mental health and well-being for citizens.

A Pacific day took place on January 13 alongside the Asia-Pacific workshop to provide targeted support and working sessions on selected integrated programs (IPs) and topics of interest to the Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The agenda included a deep-dive of the Blue and Green Islands IP and SIDS-specific guidance on other IPs of interest.

The GEF-8 Europe and Central Asia-Middle East Regional Workshop took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina from December 6-9, 2022. The event was part of a series of workshops to give countries an overview of the GEF-8 programming strategies, with a particular focus on the GEF-8 Integrated Programs (IPs) and how they will be rolled out. Discussions also centered on focal areas and global programs, as well as the country Expression of Interest process.

The 2023 Introduction Seminar brought together GEF agencies, focal points, civil society organizations and other stakeholders, and the GEF Secretariat. Participants met with GEF partners and counterparts from other countries to discuss and review GEF-8 policies and procedures and to share lessons and experiences from the development and implementation of GEF projects and their integration within national policy frameworks.

This GEF-8 Regional Workshop took place in Accra, Ghana, between October 4-7, with participants from countries in North, West, and Central Africa, the GEF Secretariat, GEF agencies and partners. It was the first event in a series of workshops to give an overview of the GEF-8 programming strategies, with a particular focus on the GEF-8 Integrated Programs (IPs) and how they will be rolled out. Specific breakout groups allowed more in-depth discussions of the different IPs, as well as regional challenges and opportunities.

It was part of a series of workshops to give countries an overview of the GEF-8 programming strategies, with a particular focus on the GEF-8 Integrated Programs (IPs) and how they will be rolled out. Specific breakout groups allowed more in-depth discussions on the different IPs, as well as regional challenges and opportunities.
