Peter Umunay
Peter serves as the Thematic Lead for Food Systems and Land Use, where he oversees food systems programs, establishes partnerships, and provides strategic oversight for several Global GEF Integrated Programs.
In his role, he leads a team of technical experts, ensuring the funds management, seamless integration of programming efforts, as well as facilitating knowledge sharing and learning activities. His work aligns with the GEF's mission to deliver global environmental benefits across multiple focal areas.
With over 15 years of experience working with international organizations, academic and research institutions, and governments, Peter has made significant contributions to the field. He has authored approximately 30 scientific publications focusing on the forest-climate nexus, land use finance, and sustainable commodities. Peter holds both a Master of Science and a PhD from the Yale School of Environment.
